FANTASTIC ILLUSIONS

Buda Art Centre – Belgium (Kortrijk) – 2009 – Fantastic Illusions (14 Nov 2009 until 14 Feb 2010)

Subject area:
The exhibition Fantastic Illusions opened in MOCA Shanghai on 12 September. This exhibition has been organised in the framework of the Electronic Arts Festival Shanghai. Later this year the exhibition moves to Belgium and will be on show at the Buda Arts Centre. The exhibition was developped and organised by the Chinese curator Art Yan and the Belgian curator Christophe De Jaeger.

The exhibition invites different Belgian and Chinese artists to explore the longing of the viewer to merge into the artist's work. When producing an illusion, the artist plays frequently with the space of the viewer. In the 19th century people were still building gigantic painted panoramas. Today artists use new media in order to produce illusions. At present painted canvas yield place to head mounted displays and interactive systems, which take visitors into virtual spaces. The artists work with different media such as painting, digital images, video and installations.
