UPCOMING PROJECT

Project on the World Exhibition Shanghai ( 20-24september 2010 )

The Machine Circus
is a program that will run three weeks in Shanghai during the Electronic Arts Festival 2010 and especially the Brusselsweek (18-22 september 2010). The Machine Circus presents artists from Brussels who make use of New Technology (Machines) and who work multidisciplinary. The Machine Circus stimulates the interaction between people and makes the them think about fundamental aspects of life.

The Machine Circus is a crossing point between art, technology, fashion and theatre. The Creative Center on the Bund will be restyled in a complete darkened, surrealistic laboratorium where we will place technological installations that interact with the visitor.

The idea of the Machine Circus is inspired by the history of the European travelling circusses. A circus is commonly a travelling company of performers that may include acrobats, clowns, trained animals, trapeze acts, musicians, hoopers, tightrope walkers, jugglers, unicyclists and other stunt-oriented artists. The word also describes the performance that they give, which is usually a series of acts that are choreographed to music and introduced by a "ringmaster". The people in the circus were sitting  in a circle around the performers. The Machine Circus also presents different technological performances of theatre makers, artists, musicians and designers in a magic athmosphere. The ringmaster is replaced by the actors who guide the public from one installation to the other.

Participating artists : Semina Denicolai & Ivo Provoost, Kris Verdonck, Crew, Hans Op De Beeck, Anouk De Clercq.

With support from eArts Shanghai 2010, Brussels Gewest
